The word tattoo was actually derived from two sources :
'Ta’ is a polynesian word while ‘tatau’ is a tahitian word. While "ta" means to strike something, the word tatau means to mark something.
It is believed that people had started to use tattoos a few thousand years ago and that the tattoos looked much different than they are now.
Some people claim that tattoos were discovered by mistake and people started using them when they found that the marks that were somehow made on wounds became permanent. One day a mark was made on wound and when the wound finally healed, the marks were still there and were hard to rub off. The mark had thus become permanent just like a tattoo. Although the process seems to be a painful one, people still used this method to put tattoo designs on their bodies.
Actually, even in our modern era, getting a tattoo is a painful process and some people are scared of it. Hope the painless tattoo process comes out soon and becomes popularised.
